Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine has unveiled significant changes to the Suffolk 311 communications system, resulting in reduced wait times, lower abandonment rates, and enhanced efficiency. Romaine emphasized the importance of providing essential services promptly, stating, "By making significant changes to Suffolk 311 in the last couple of months, we are now able to better serve our residents."

The reorganization of Suffolk 311 in February 2024 included the designation of additional employees as auxiliary call center staff to improve responsiveness. This initiative led to a substantial decrease in wait times, with recent averages now standing at just three minutes, a significant improvement from previous months. Romaine highlighted the success of the changes, noting, "I encourage our residents to call 311 for constituent affairs as we pride ourselves on professionalism and efficiency."

Furthermore, the County's Department of Information Technology collaborated with 311 personnel to streamline processes and enhance the user experience by eliminating unnecessary data capturing procedures. Additionally, the Suffolk County Executive's Office and Suffolk 311 personnel will be organizing Community Days at local libraries and community centers to further promote the program.

Suffolk 311 operates countywide, with the exception of the Town of Babylon, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Residents can access the service by dialing 311, visiting suffolkcountyny.gov/311, or downloading the Suffolk 311 app. Those outside of Suffolk County can reach the call center at 1-833-DIAL 311.
